FerryShare is built on trust. These guidelines exist to keep our community safe, respectful, and fair for everyone.
Be Honest
Use your real name and a clear profile photo
Set prices that reflect your actual travel costs only
Leave honest ratings based on your real experience
Be Respectful
Treat every driver and passenger with courtesy
Respect ride preferences — if a driver requests a quiet ride, honour it
No harassment, discrimination, or threatening behaviour of any kind
FerryShare has a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic
Be Reliable
Drivers: show up on time at the agreed pickup location
Passengers: arrive at least 10 minutes early, use the GPS check-in button by 60 minutes before departure, and confirm attendance when prompted 30 minutes before pickup
If you need to cancel, do so as early as possible so the other party can make alternate arrangements
Be Safe
Drivers must never drive impaired
Passengers should always wear seatbelts
Trust your instincts — if something feels wrong, you are not obligated to proceed with a trip
If you feel unsafe during a trip, contact emergency services (911) immediately
Keep It Cost-Sharing
FerryShare is for sharing actual travel costs, not making money
Drivers must be already making this trip for their own purposes — FerryShare is not a platform to offer transportation for hire
BC carpooling compliance: To qualify under BC's Passenger Transportation Regulation carpool exemption, drivers should use their actual starting point as pickup and their actual destination as dropoff. All passengers share the same pickup and dropoff points as posted by the driver.
The suggested price is calculated as: 70% of the BC Ferries vehicle fare ÷ 3 passengers + road distance × $0.15/km per passenger — rides are capped at 3 passengers maximum and your price should be at or below this amount
Do not charge passengers more than your genuine pro-rated trip costs (fuel, ferry fare, tolls)
Do not use FerryShare as a commercial transportation service — charging for profit or operating as a TNC, taxi, or ride-hail service will result in immediate and permanent account suspension
Only private passenger vehicles are permitted on FerryShare. Commercial vehicles of any kind — including work trucks, cargo vans, and vehicles primarily used for business purposes — are not currently supported and may not be used to offer rides.
One ride per calendar day: Drivers may not post more than one ride per calendar day in the same direction to comply with BC's Passenger Transportation Regulation carpool exemption. FerryShare enforces this limit automatically.
BC Ferries reservations: If you have a BC Ferries vehicle reservation, you can bring FerryShare passengers — the terminal ticket agent will charge any additional passenger fares at the booth on the day of travel.
Violations
Violations of these guidelines may result in warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent removal from the platform depending on severity. Serious violations including assault, fraud, or impaired driving will result in immediate permanent removal and may be reported to law enforcement.

GPS Check-In and Pre-Ride Confirmation
FerryShare operates two mandatory pre-ride systems to ensure reliability for drivers and passengers.
GPS Check-In: Check-in opens 2 hours before departure. Reminders are sent at 90 and 60 minutes. The deadline is 60 minutes before departure — miss it and a strike is automatically issued and the driver may cancel penalty-free.
Attendance Confirmation: FerryShare sends passengers an in-app notification 30 minutes before their scheduled pickup time requesting confirmation of attendance.
Passengers must confirm attendance through the app before the 30-minute mark
If a passenger does not confirm in time, the driver may cancel the booking penalty-free
A passenger who fails to confirm and is subsequently cancelled by the driver will not receive a refund or credit
Drivers see real-time confirmation status for all passengers in their ride dashboard
These systems protect drivers from last-minute no-shows and ensure everyone's time is respected.
Platform Credits
Platform Credits are issued in lieu of cash refunds for late passenger cancellations and post-chat driver cancellations.
Credits equal the value of the original booking fee paid
Credits are applied automatically on your next FerryShare booking
Credits appear as a wallet balance on your profile page
Credits are non-transferable between accounts
Credits are not redeemable for cash
Credits expire 12 months from the date of issuance
FerryShare may cancel credits if issued as a result of fraud or abuse
Platform Integrity
FerryShare's matching and communication tools exist to help drivers and passengers find each other. Sharing contact information after a booking is confirmed is allowed and expected.
However, intentionally arranging a ride through FerryShare's matching system while bypassing the booking fee is a serious violation:
Both the driver and the passenger involved in an off-platform bypass will receive a permanent ban
There is no appeal process for platform bypass bans
FerryShare may use booking patterns and user reports to identify bypass arrangements
Driver Strike System
Drivers are held to a high standard of reliability:
Event
Consequence
Cancellation after chat opens (within 24 hours of departure)
1 strike
Confirmed no-show at pickup
1 strike
3 or more strikes total
Automatic account suspension
Suspended drivers may not post new rides until their account has been reviewed by FerryShare.
Dispute Resolution
If you believe a refund or credit was incorrectly issued or withheld, contact support@ferryshare.com within 7 days of the ride date with your booking ID. We will review check-in records and respond within 3 business days.
Processing Time
Approved refunds are processed within 3–5 business days and appear on your original payment method. Platform Credits are applied immediately to your account balance.
